Within the maritime infrastructure industry, the companies that comprise the International Association of Dredging Companies are known for their high-levels of expertise. But outside the industry dredging in general is often little known and undervalued. Important progress is being made to communicate the dynamism of the dredging sector to a new generation and to underscore how essential dredging is to improve a country’s socioeconomic well-being and living standards.

(Van Oord) Rotterdam, the Netherlands – 3rd September 2010 – Van Oord was recently awarded the dredging works for the Cape Lambert Port B Project by Hamersley Iron Pty Ltd. The project comprises the construction of a new port facility adjacent to the existing Cape Lambert Port facility in Western Australia.

Zwijndrecht – 23 August 2010. The Belgian dredging, marine engineering and environmental Group DEME, has been awarded a contract for dredging, transport over a distance of 120 km. and reclamation works to prepare the Imeretinskaya Lowland area at Sochi for construction of the Olympic village for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games.

Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. realized a net profit of € 123.9 million in the first half of 2010, up from € 102.7 million in the first half of 2009. The profit contribution from Smit Internationale N.V. ("SMIT"), excluding interest expenses on the acquisition finance but including all other effects related to the transaction, was € 9.5 million.
